A host of top European athletics stars banded together at the IAAF Diamond League meeting in Paris last week to tell the world #TheMoment is Coming ahead of the inaugural multisport European Championships, which will be staged in Berlin and Glasgow from 2-12 August.
This superstar group from a diverse set of nations and disciplines – which contained Olympic, world and European champions as well as one world record holder – gave their own special and individual interpretations to the message that sporting history is about to be made in the two host cities in just a few weeks’ time.
Among the athletes were hurdler Sergey Shubenkov (ANA/Russia), multi-events exponents Kevin Mayer (FRA) and Nafi Thiam (BEL), high jumper Mirela Demitreva (BUL), and discus thrower Sandra Perkovic (CRO).
All of these athletes will go to Berlin with realistic ambitions of having one of the special European Championships medals hung around their necks with several – such as Shubenkov, Mayer and Thiam judging from their form so far this summer – perhaps even having ambitions of challenging the European records in their events.
For all of them, #TheMoment is Coming.
